Lingenfelter is no stranger to western American mining history and this compilation of bibliographical citations is based on his own personal collection of materials. He purchased one of the first copies of our publication Desert Fever and it is listed in this book as CA:1125. The methodology behind his numbering means our book is the 1,125th volume of California mining history when listed alphabetically by author.
The history of western American mining has been explored and developed much less than the mines themselves. In fact, the last book that has been written that encapsulates the overall history of mining in the American West was a History of American Mining by Thomas Arthur Rickard, written in 1932.
This bibliography will both stimulate and facilitate new research by revealing not only what has been done, but what has yet to be done, and some of the potential sources that may be used to do it.
Topics Include:
*Prospecting
*Stampedes and rushes
*Mines and mining camps
*Mining promotion and finance
*Labor and technology
*Mining laws and disputes
*Literature and lore
